Jason Duval’s official biography puts his Army service between a troubled upbringing and work for drug runners in the Keys. Rockstar also presents meeting Lucia as a turning point whose outcome remains uncertain. Read the official profile.
A fresh start, with old habits
Our reading is that this background creates tension between changing circumstances and changing behavior. Moving somewhere else or taking another job does not necessarily provide a clean break. A character can want stability while continuing to make choices that undermine it.
There is an earlier series comparison: Rockstar introduces Vice City Stories protagonist Vic Vance as a soldier whose circumstances deteriorate after a bad decision. That comparison concerns storytelling, not a shared history between the characters. Rockstar’s Stories retrospective.
The interesting question for Jason is therefore how his decisions compare with his stated desire for an easier life. Military experience alone cannot answer it, and this entry does not assign him a specific unit or a special gameplay ability. His biography establishes a starting point; his choices will give it meaning.
